2nd XI: Brigade v Woodvale Euris Europe Ulster Plate 1st Round

This is the second year that Brigade 2nd XI have played in this competition.  Last year they were just 2 runs short of the total set by Bangor in the first round game, this year the team has made it one step further.

Woodvale batted first and the opening batsmen proved difficult to dislodge.  S. Fleming was caught by Chris Campbell off Ged Donnell’s bowling for just 10 but his partner M. Irwin found no difficultly in posting a total of 51 before Trevor Dalzell finally took what looked to be a vital wicket.  The middle order didn’t make a great difference to the total but it was J. Adams coming in at number 9 that contributed 42 not out, including 5 boundaries, to see the visitors post a final total of 197 for 8 in their 40 overs.

Once again experience in the bowling ranks accounted for 6 wickets with Ivan Nicholl and Trevor Dalzell both claiming  three each.  Ged Donnell and Ryan Brace, in his second match of the season, taking one each.

Brigade lost opener Dean Curry on O in the first over.  Ivan Nicholl batting at  number 2 along with Aaron Kitson put on a 50 run partnership before Kitson was caught by L. Irwin off G. Weir  on 39 to leave the home side on 50 for 2.  Nicholl then had two further partners T. Dalzell (1) and R. Brace (29) before departing on 39.  He left Ian Duddy to be joined by Chris Campbell to steadily add to the total,  Campbell was stumped by M. Warke on 31.  Duddy  and Nic Donnell on 34 and 10 respectively acheived the 198 runs required without further loss.
