2nd XI:Brigade v Ardmore – League

The match against Ardmore started on Saturday but play was halted due to the heavy rain and resumed on Monday night.

Ardmore won the toss and decided to bat, openers T. Harris and Dessie Brolly took the opening bowling in their stride both putting on 28 and 70 respectively.  Sean Gormley was the only other batsman to make a marked contribution scoring 47 including 6 fours and a six.  Ardmore finished on 199 for 8 off 50 overs.  Johnny Torrens was the most economical of the Brigade bowlers picking up 2 for 31 off 10 overs.  Ryan Brace, in his first match of the season, also picked up 2 wickets whilst Dougie Huey and Ged Donnell took one each.

In reply Brigade lost openers Andrew Baggley and Dean Curry very early and it was Ryan Brace and Ian Duddy that took the home side’s score from 39 for 2 off 11 to 118 off 33 before Brace on 68 was bowled by Mark Simpson.  Ian Duddy departed in the 42nd over on 27 with the score on150 for 5 and Johnny Torrens and Mark Hanna were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.  Brigade’s final total was 182 for 10 off 49 overs.  Ciaran McDermott took 4 for 32 off 10, Sean Gormley and Lee Brolly took 2 and Mark Simpson claimed one wicket.

Despite progressing through to the semi final of the Inter A cup and the second round of the Euris Europe Ulster Plate, the team are yet to put points on the league board.  Their next match is at home on Sat 20th June against Eglinton and then on Sun 21st June they play Strabane in the semi final of the Intermediate A Cup at Beechgrove.
