On Thursday, 19th November 2009, Brigade held their AGM in the clubhouse at Beechgrove where the individual prize winners for the 2009 season received their awards from club President, Jim Wallace.

2009 Secretary’s Report

Mr President, Mr Chairman, members of Brigade Cricket Club, it gives me great pleasure to present the secretary’s report for the Year 2009.

Experience wins the day!

On Saturday evening, 19th September, the 2nd XI enjoyed their annual end of season bash. As has been traditional of recent years they took part in a bowling competition to kick off the evening.

2nd XI Results and Averages – 2009

Another season all but gone. Below is a summary of the 2nd XI results for the 2009 season. Thanks must go to Leann Spiers for yet again doing a fantastic job all season scoring for the seconds. It certainly was not very exciting for her except for a couple of highlights so credit to her for sticking at it and for summarising the stats below. Credit also to all the players who turned out for the seconds in what was a difficult year.  Just a pity we didn’t pip Donemana in the Ulster Plate to finish the season.

2nd XI: Brigade v Donemana – Euris Europe Ulster Plate Final

At the second time of trying both sides were eager to get a result that didn’t involve a bowl out.  Umpires George Brolly and Roly Black along with captains Dougie Huey and Noel Dunn decided to play a ten over game.

2nd XI: Brigade v Bready – League

The 2nd XI travelled to Bready for their second away match of the season. Upon hearing the score from Bready’s last league match when they posted a total of 300 +, the Brigade team did not have high hopes for a victory and seemed to be more concerned with damage limitation. 

2nd XI: Brigade v Strabane – Intermediate A Cup Semi Final

The semi final was played on Sunday 21st June at Beechgrove.

2nd XI: Brigade v Eglinton – League

On yet another wet weekend the 2nd XI hosted Eglinton at Beechgrove.  Waiting around for the weather to clear took longer than the match!

Euris Europe Ulster Plate – 2nd Round

The draw for the 2nd round of the Euris Europe Ulster Plate has taken place. It is now sure to be won by a North West side after all the NCU teams were knocked out in the 1st round.

2nd round of the Ulster Plate  to be played on Sunday, 5th July.

2nd XI:Brigade v Ardmore – League

The match against Ardmore started on Saturday but play was halted due to the heavy rain and resumed on Monday night.

2nd XI: Brigade v Woodvale Euris Europe Ulster Plate 1st Round

This is the second year that Brigade 2nd XI have played in this competition.  Last year they were just 2 runs short of the total set by Bangor in the first round game, this year the team has made it one step further.

Brigade sign new bat for 2nd XI!

Brigade sign a new bat for their 2nd XI. Captain Dougie Huey says he is delighted with the latest addition to the ranks and should bring some extra fire power.

2nd XI: Brigade v Glendermott – Intermediate A Cup 1st Round

What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours! For the second day in a row Brigade hosted Glendermott but this time a place in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Cup was at stake.

2nd XI: Brigade v Glendermott – League

Not only did the last Saturday in May bring the long awaited sunshine,  it also brought neighbours Glendermott to Beechgrove for the third league match of the season.

2nd XI: Brigade v Donemana – League

Despite another wet and windy weekend there was play at Beechgrove for Brigade 2nd XI against Donemana in their first home league match of the 2009 season.

2nd XI: Strabane v Brigade – League

For the first match of the 2009 season Brigade 2nd XI travelled to Strabane. Ryan Patton, Strabane captain, won the toss and put Brigade into bat. Brigade got off to a slow start taking 19 overs to reach their first 50 runs with the loss of 2 wickets.

2009 Memorial Cup match

On a beautiful sunny April day two Brigade teams contested the Memorial Cup at Beechgrove. The two team captains for the match were Gordon Cooke and Graham Moore.

Intermediate League Fixtures now added.

The Intermediate League fixtures have been added for 2009. Again there are a few blanks during the season with the worst being in August where there are no matches on the 15th and 22nd and then a double header at the start of September!

For his Memorable Match, Adrian Torrens relives the events of the Irish Junior Cup Final in July 1968 where they narrowly lost out to a strong Cork Wanderers side.

2nd XI at home to Woodvale in the Ulster Plate

Brigade 2nd XI have been drawn at home to Woovale II’s in the first round of the 2009 Ulster Plate competition. The full draw details are as follows;
