Best Brigade Team selected!
October 19, 2009
The votes are in and counted! We can now reveal the Best Brigade Team from the last 30 years or so, as voted for by you. There were some great players for Brigade over the years and no doubt some have been left out that deserve a mention but it is difficult to include everyone.
1st XI Averages – 2009
October 13, 2009It was by no means a vintage year for the 1st XI but with the changes in personnel from 2008 a 6th spot finish in the league was a reasonable effort. Having two matches with No Result did not help either mind you. For the record; played 18, won 7, lost 9, No Result 2.
Best Brigade Team – Final 3 bowlers
October 11, 2009
The voting for the Opening Bowlers has now closed. The two bowlers selected were Roy Torrens and Mark Simpson. Marshall Williamson just missed out on selection in third place.

September 14, 2009On Saturday, 5th September, there was a party at Brigade for Club President Jim Wallace and his wife, Margaret, as they celebrated 50 years of marriage! Present at the event were Jim and Margaret’s family plus a lot of their friends. A good night was had by all as they danced and talked away into the wee small hours.
2nd XI Results and Averages – 2009
September 11, 2009Another season all but gone. Below is a summary of the 2nd XI results for the 2009 season. Thanks must go to Leann Spiers for yet again doing a fantastic job all season scoring for the seconds. It certainly was not very exciting for her except for a couple of highlights so credit to her for sticking at it and for summarising the stats below. Credit also to all the players who turned out for the seconds in what was a difficult year. Just a pity we didn’t pip Donemana in the Ulster Plate to finish the season.
2nd XI: Brigade v Donemana – Euris Europe Ulster Plate Final
September 9, 2009At the second time of trying both sides were eager to get a result that didn’t involve a bowl out. Umpires George Brolly and Roly Black along with captains Dougie Huey and Noel Dunn decided to play a ten over game.
Brigade Youth Teams triumph!
September 9, 2009Brigade U12’s, U14’s and U16’s all triumphed recently with a ‘clean sweep’ in the Derry Mid-week League. This was a great success and reflects well not only on the effort being made to develop our youth section but for our adult teams in the next few years.

Cricket in North Yorkshire
August 18, 2009At the end of July I spent some time on holiday in North Yorkshire. To be exact we based ourselves in Whitby on the east coast. The town itself is probably most famous for the ruins of the Abbey on the cliff with it’s 199 steps up to it (no I didn’t count them!) and for the fact that it inspired Bram Stoker to write his famous Dracula story in 1897.

During the Killymallaght match recently at Beechgrove, I had the pleasure of meeting up with an old Brigade man, namely Jim Shields. We had a great chat when I eventually realised who Jim was and he certainly enjoyed the few hours we had together.
